À la Volée 2018 Crémant de Limoux December 2024 Imported Wine Club Selection

Details:

HB Wine Merchants is a wholesale producer, importer, and marketer of fine wines in the United States. They have distribution in 46 states by a hand chosen group of fine wine oriented distributors. They represent more than 60 growers of estate-bottled wines in Burgundy, Chablis, the Rhône, Loire Valley and Southern France as well as some of the best wines available from Italy, Germany, Spain, New Zealand and Canada. They are proud to begin a partnership with Pierre Caizergues & the Bouché Family, established in 2021. This small firm sources the best fruit planted on limestone and clay soils in the upper Aude Valley in Limoux. Pierre specifies the careful selection of fruit grown with the purpose of making the highest quality sparkling wine.

Pierre Caizergues started making wines in Montreal d’Aude west of Carcassonne in southwestern France in 2015. He was joined by his friend, winemaker Antonin Bonnet, full time in 2020.

The two friends specialize in low intervention wines (low or no added sulfites), with varietals like Carignan, and some resistant varietals such as Cabernet Cortis and Souvignier Gris. They also separately make a Mourvèdre in the village of Saint Jean de Fos in the Larzac region of France. Larzac is a bit further east in the Hérault region while all the other wines they make are made in Aude near the estate in Montreal d’Aude / Hameau de Stricou.

Made with 50% Chardonnay + 50% Chenin Blanc grapes that are harvested by hand. This is a totally natural style of wine-making and secondary fermentation in the bottle just as in Champagne. There is zero sugar added at disgorgement, only white wine to top the bottles making it a Brut Nature.

Tasting Notes:

Enjoy this delicate and effervescent sparkling wine, with pleasant notes of candied fruit and toasted bread. Good structure and well balanced with a hint of bitters. Fresh, round and elegant.

Jim Lutfy’s Thoughts:

“Great Bubbly for the holiday season!! Fabulous, dry, and electric. Really clean and refreshing. Best to drink with fish, cheese or rich chicken dishes.”

– Jim Lufty, Fine Wine Source
