Description

Overview:

About:

The property has been owned by the Barbi family since 1973 and is operated by Claudio Barbi and his son Enzo. Their passion for wine has motivated them to move away from just producing Orvieto Classico. In addition to the local Grechetto and Procanico, 6 other international white varietals and 6 red varietals are planted. The Decugnano dei Barbi estate is located near the town of Orvieto in the Orvieto Classico Zone in the central Italy province of Umbria. The property consists of 150 Acres of which 78 are planted. A wine for every day, yet with the character to surprise: Villa Barbi Rosso is your perfect ally at the table.

With its full and generous taste, but never overpowering, it pairs well with meats, cheeses, and pasta dishes to enhance every meal. With a brief aging in oak barrels, the wine gains complexity while maintaining the notes of ripe fruit and freshness that make it irresistible.

Tasting Notes:

A vibrant garnet with purple hues. On the nose red and black fruits combine with hints of spice and saddle wood. The rich flavors of blackberry, cherry, and currants are moderated by soft and supple tannins. The well-balanced body is soft and full. The aromas and flavors carry through on the long finish.

A blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, this offers aromas of black-skinned berry, cedar and underbrush. The savory, accessible palate shows juicy black plum, tobacco and cooking spice alongside polished tannins

Jim Lutfy’s Thoughts:

“Rich, Spicy layers of flavor and complexities, with a long deep lingering finish. Best served with pasta & tomatoes sauce, pizza or flavorful soups.”

– Jim Lufty, Fine Wine Source
