Overview:

Tome Short Grass Sauvignon Blanc 2022 Washington State

Details:

Robert was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Robert’s father was an immigrant from the Northern Italian province of Friuli Venezia Giulia, home to some of Rob’s favourite vineyards. His mother is a third-generation Canadian of Scottish descent, not many vineyards there, but plenty of golf courses- Robert’s favourite past time.
Robert’s love of wine was nurtured at a very young age. As a young boy, he remembers making wine at home in the garage, an annual tradition with his father and uncles. On special occasions, Robert and his brothers would sample the fruits of their labor with a splash of ginger ale at the dinner table. A right of passage for many of Italian descent.
Their Winemaker, VICTOR PALENCIA born in Michoacán, Mexico, Victor Palencia was 2 years old when his dad, in search of new opportunities, uprooted the family and moved them to the United States. The Palencia’s landed in Yakima, Wash., where Victor’s father began working in agriculture, tending to fields of mint and corn and soon the land Victor’s father tended was replanted with grapes.

Victor followed in his dad’s footsteps. In middle school, he began working in the fields, including planting grapes. By high school, he was on staff in a winery, and by the time he reached his senior year (in high school, people!) he was an assistant winemaker. Pretty impressive for a kid who was still too young to drink wine.
Victor has nearly come full circle. Those Yakima area vineyards he helped plant as a child? He gets some of the grapes for his wines from them now.

Tasting Notes:

The Short Grass is very pale yellow with an elevated citrus, tropical fruit, and herbs nose. Short Grass is fresh, with crisp minerality, ripe tropical fruits with flavors of passion fruit, melon, and ruby grapefruit. Great for that last day of fall Sunshine.

Pair with seafood, oysters, asparagus, or goat’s cheese

Jim Lutfy’s Thoughts:

”This white wine is electric, full of zippy acidity with a long, lingering finish of lemon zest and pink grapefruit. A spectacular Sauvignon Blanc! Best served with fish, chicken, and any Italian or French cheeses.”

– Jim Lufty, Fine Wine Source
